New Puppy"s Ride Home

You have been impatiently waiting for the day that you can bring your new puppy home.
That day is finally here and you can hardly wait to pick up your new little family member and start your new life together.
Before this day arrives, you will find it very helpful to take a little time to prepare for your puppy's ride home.
This is an exciting time for you but for your new puppy it is a completely new adventure.
He is being taken away from everything that he has ever known and entering into a strange new world.
Preparation on your part will lessen your puppy's stress and make the adventure more enjoyable for everyone involved.
It is safer for your puppy if he is in a crate on his trip home.
This will keep him from wandering around the car.
Your puppy wandering around the car could create several problems.
One of them being that he could get on your lap and distract you while you are driving.
He could also go to your feet and become a hazard possibly causing you to lose control of the car.
This will also keep him from being thrown and possibly hurt if you were to become involved in an accident.
Another good reason for having your puppy in a crate for his ride home is that the stress levels may cause your puppy to need to go potty.
It is also likely that stress or simply the movement of the car may cause him to get nauseated and create a mess too.
If he is in a crate it will keep any mess there may be confined and easier to clean up.
If you do not have a crate, you should check with your family and friends to see if anyone has one that you could borrow.
If there is simply no crate available, get a box to keep you new puppy in for his ride home.
If I were to use a box, I would take the time to put a plastic trash bag between the bottom of the box and the sheet or towel to prevent any messes from leaking through the box onto my car seat.
It is a good idea to have a sheet or a towel to put in the crate or box for your puppy's comfort.
It will make your puppy feel like it has something to snuggle with and it will also make his feet more secure so that he doesn't slide inside the crate or box.
I like to bring a towel or sheet that I don't mind throwing away.
This will eliminates having to worry about getting the sheet or towel washed while I would rather be spending time helping my new puppy adjust to his new home.
If possible, it is a good idea to bring a family member or a friend along for the ride.
This will provide one on one company for the puppy.
It gives you the comfort of knowing that if your puppy is scared and whimpering there is someone there to try to comfort him.
It will make it a safer situation because it will help you to not be distracted from driving safely.
Turning on some soft and smoothing tunes can also be comforting and soothing to your puppy.
So grab a CD before you leave the house or find a good soothing radio station to have on for the ride home.
If you are prepared for you puppy's ride home, all that leaves for you to do is pick your puppy up and start enjoying the adventure with your new puppy.
